UMTSmon is a tool to control and monitor a 3G
(WCDMA, UMTS, HSDPA) card in a laptop. It handles
PIN codes, operator choice (roaming),
sending/receiving SMS, and the setup of the

This release contains greatly improved hardware support, notably for Huawei and Sierra Wireless devices, but most device types have seen improvements. There is also a new operator chooser wizard, and the UI has been improved to show more info. It also has statistics/warnings for both connection time and data limits, and comes with support for 8 languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, German, Italian, Norwegian Bokmal, Polish, Spanish, and English.

This release comes with a new auto-detection system for the cards. Several new cards are detected and many cards are detected more reliably. The code is also much more maintainable. Once a card is detected, it will be remembered in the config file. Also included are an improved UI and many small fixes that improve the usability of the application - including logging output of a failed PPP connection, notification that a profile needs saving, and a new radio preferences dialog.

This is probably the most stable release yet for all 100% supported cards. If you own a single port serial card (XU870, GC79, most Sierra Wireless), this release will finally work for you -- but don't try to do things with umtsmon while you are connected (like the SMS or info dialogs), or it will crash. It also has a new, revamped UI. There's still one control that needs to be moved, but the new UI should work better for everyone. This release has a dialog at startup that will tell you if all settings are correct, and propose to change them if needed.

Major feature enhancements
The UI has seen a huge revamp, with the additional implementation of changing PIN codes and enabling/disabling the use of a PIN code. Starting/stopping the PPP daemon now works reliably, and umtsmon no longer needs to be suid. There is new autodetection support of the Option 'ICON' USB box, 4G Systems 'Web n Walk' USB box, and the Original Option Vodafone 3G card. Of these, only the last one is completely supported.
